World Hockey Heroes

India won her 6th consecutive Olympic hockey gold medal at Melbourne in 1956 - then a world record for a team sport.

To commemorate this historic occasion, this card was printed (either in Madras - Sport and Pastime, or in Calcutta - Uberoi Ltd.)

The team captains shown in the photograph (note that the years 1948 and 1936 have got interchanged) are:

1936 - Berlin - Dhyan Chand

1956 - Melbourne - Balbir Singh Sr.

During this victorious run spanning 6 Olympic Games, the Indian hockey team played 25 matches, won all 25, scored 178 goals, and conceded only 7 goals.
