Bangkok Asian Games - 1998
India won its first Asian Games hockey gold in 32 years, when they beat South Korea in the final in a nerve-wracking tie-break duel. Goalkeeper Ashish Ballal was the hero of the final, saving two penalty strokes.

None of the 16 players in the Indian team was even born when India won the Asian Games hockey gold for the first time in 1966.

Even before the euphoria of winning the Asian Games died down, the IHF sacked the winning coach and 6 stars of the Indian team. No wonder Indian hockey officials are such a despised lot.
