Appointed India Captain | Under Dhyan Chand's captaincy, on
March 2, 1934, India beat Afghanistan 5-0. The Nawab of Manavdar played
under Dhyan Chand, and it was unusual for a ruling prince to play under a
civilian.

n 1934, Dhyan Chand reached an important milestone in his career when he was appointed captain of the Indian team. He recounts this honour, "I used to feel that my limited academic qualifications and my rank in my regiment would count against my being appointed captain of the Indian hockey team, whatever may be my achievements in the field of hockey. Therefore, when I heard that I had been chosen to captain India in the Western Asiatic Games, I was surprised and delighted."
