n Dhyan Chand's opinion, the best combination and team India had till the 1948 Games was that of the 1932 Olympic team. Among the forwards, Dhyan Chand thought that Roop Singh, Dickie Carr and Syed Mohammad Jafar were exceptional.

Among the centre-forwards, Dhyan Chand had a high opinion of Frankie Wells and A. I. S. Dara, both of whom he felt were equally good. Wells was unlucky not to represent India in the Olympics. Dhyan Chand had toured with Wells in New Zealand in 1935, and in his view, there was no better forward on wet grounds.

As for the goalkeeper, Dhyan Chand felt that Richard Allen, who kept goal for India in the 1928, 1932 and the 1936 Olympics, was a great goalkeeper.

The captain of the 1932 Indian team, Lal Shah Bokhari, migrated to Pakistan after partition, and was his country's High Commissioner to Ceylon. He died in Ceylon in 1958.
